Royal Icing Recipe

Depending on what mood I'm in, I sometimes like being super artsy when decorating cookies. I'm not necessarily great at icing them, but I like to mess around with different patterns and ideas.

Ingredients:
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 2 egg whites
- 1tsp vanilla extract or fresh lemon juice
- pinch of salt
- 1 tbs milk
- 1/2 tsp cream of tartar (can be omitted)
- food coloring (optional)

Directions:
1. Using a mixer, combine powdered sugar, cream of tartar, salt, and egg whites until thick and shiny.

2. Add lemon juice or vanilla and milk. If icing is too thin, add more sugar.

3. Divide icing into portions, if desired, and add different food coloring to each.

4. Cover until ready to use.

If you want your baked goods to be adorned with more precise detailing, put some of the icing in a plastic Ziploc bag, press it closed, and snip one of the corners off (the bigger the hole, the more icing you'll squeeze out)

Happy decorating!
